If you’ve been wanting to try an action camera but don’t want to spend a huge amount on one, the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera might be worth checking out!

With features like 5K Ultra HD video, 4K at 60FPS, 48MP photos, EIS stabilization, a 170° wide-angle lens, dual screens, and a waterproof case, it packs quite a lot into a compact camera. And with its current launch pricing of PHP 6,999, it is positioned as a more budget-friendly option for travelers, content creators, and anyone who simply wants a camera they can bring along on adventures.

I recently got to test the LUMOS DOMINATE during a hotel staycation. Since it had been raining quite a bit lately, aside from trying it out in a nearby mall I figured a pool test would be the perfect opportunity to see how it performs in one of the situations where an action camera really comes in handy (around water).

First Impressions

One of the things I like about this action camera is how easy it is to bring anywhere. The LUMOS DOMINATE is designed to be versatile, whether you’re filming handheld, mounting it for action shots, or simply taking it along on your travels.

It also comes with front and rear screens, which is especially useful if you’re filming yourself. Whether you’re taking a quick selfie video, recording a travel vlog, or getting a group shot, being able to see your framing makes things much easier.

Another nice touch for content creators is its vertical shooting mode, so you can capture footage that’s already formatted for social media instead of having to crop horizontal footage afterward.

The camera also comes with 5X digital zoom. While the difference isn’t particularly dramatic when zooming in, I still think it’s a nice feature to have, especially since it gives you a little more flexibility when framing your shots. Plus, it’s also not something you typically expect to find as a major feature on an action camera, so I see it as a nice extra!

And lastly, you also have the option to avail of the Travel Bundle for an additional PHP 1,000, which comes with everything you’ll need to bring your action camera wherever you go. The bundle includes the hard case, a selfie stick, mini tripod, 2 extra batteries, and a charging port.

Getting To Know The Camera

Even with the camera’s small body, it actually has several functions! Here’s a preview:

Even without reading the manual, I found the camera pretty easy to figure out. The buttons are mostly self-explanatory, and with a little trial and error, I was able to get the hang of it. The touchscreen also made navigating through the camera’s multiple functions much easier.

By the way, here are the different shooting modes available on the camera. So far, I’ve only used the Normal Video and Normal Photo modes, and I’m yet to play around with the others.

The WiFi transfer is particularly convenient when you’re creating content on the go. Instead of having to connect the camera to a computer first, you can transfer your footage to your device and get started on editing or posting.

To transfer files from the camera to your phone, simply download the SupCam Pro app, turn on the camera’s WiFi mode, and connect the camera to your phone. From there, you can easily transfer your photos and videos wirelessly without needing any cables.

More Sample Photos

Here are more sample photos I took using the LUMOS DOMINATE so you can get a better idea of the photo quality and colors straight out of the camera!

Most likely, the Normal Photo and Normal Video mode will be my go-to setting for everyday shots:

Putting the Waterproof Case to the Test

The waterproof case was definitely the feature I was most excited to try! Instead of worrying about keeping my phone safely away from the water, I could bring the LUMOS DOMINATE with me and capture footage for beach trips, or even theme park rides with water splashes. Honestly, the possibilities are endless!

And this is where I think the LUMOS DOMINATE makes a lot of sense for my future travels. Having a dedicated camera with a waterproof case means I can be more adventurous with my shots without having to risk my everyday smartphone.

I can still remember all those snorkeling adventures that went undocumented because I was too afraid to risk bringing my phone into the water. Now, having an action camera like this opens up so many possibilities for capturing those future adventures and memories!

Just remember that the waterproof protection comes from the included waterproof case, so make sure the case is properly closed and secured before taking it into the water!

Is the LUMOS DOMINATE Worth It?

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly action camera for travels, casual adventures, or content creation, the LUMOS DOMINATE is definitely one to consider.

What I particularly liked about testing it was having the freedom to bring a camera into the pool without relying on my phone. The waterproof case, combined with the camera’s wide-angle lens and different shooting modes, makes it a fun little companion for capturing moments that you might otherwise hesitate to film.

It also offers a pretty impressive list of features for its price point: 5K video, 4K 60FPS, 48MP photos, EIS, 170° wide-angle shooting, dual screens, vertical recording, WiFi transfer, and a waterproof case.

At the current sale price of ₱6,999 (regularly ₱11,999), it’s an especially interesting option if you’re looking for an action camera without going straight into the higher-priced options on the market.

Final Thoughts

For me, the biggest appeal of the LUMOS DOMINATE is its value and versatility.

It’s small enough to bring along (it won’t be an extra weight to your bag), has plenty of shooting options, and most importantly for my staycation test, lets you capture fun water moments with the included waterproof case.

If you’re a traveler or content creator looking for a more affordable action camera to bring on your next adventure, the LUMOS DOMINATE is worth adding to your list!
