Acting FEMA Director Cameron Hamilton confirmed that the payments had been stopped and those responsible would be held accountable after Musk’s revelation.

Hamilton criticized Congress for passing laws in 2023 and 2024 that required FEMA to assist with housing migrants who were illegally in the U.S.

New York City officials have been housing migrants in hotels since August 2023, anticipating costs exceeding $2.3 billion for the current fiscal year and the past two years combined.
