ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Guests who tried to check in today found their hotel was checked out. A note on the doors of a downtown hotel said it was closed and directed guests to TripAdvisor for a solution.
“The hotel patrons just brought us a lot of business,” said Lance Levine, Owner of the Levine Hat Company.
Levine says he’s disappointed to see ‘The Last Hotel’ close it’s doors. His business overlooks the hotel on Washington Avenue.
“They did so many weddings and so many special events and it seems like someone was always forgetting a tie, a pair of shoes, so they were coming into Levine’s to get those products,” said Levine.
The news of the hotel’s closing came as a surprise to everyone, including guests and employees.
“When we heard that The Last Hotel was closing, our Meet St. Louis team they jumped into action, they found new housing for all of the folks who are a part of the Capital Sports event that’s here right now,” said Catherine Neville with Explore St. Louis.
The closure stems from legal disputes between the man who claims he’s the majority owner, Michael Qualizza, and a co-manager.
“It’s sad to lose a hotel, hopefully the hotel will re-open soon,” said Neville.
“I’m wondering if someone is going to step up to take their place, now that they’re built out. I’m sure someone will,” said Levine.
It is unclear if or when the hotel will reopen.
