A new rendering has been revealed for 114-126 Monroe Street, a proposed eight-story boutique hotel in the Ironbound neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey. Designed by Comito Associates and developed by Antonio and Albano Seabra of The Seabra Group, the 153-room structure was approved by the city’s Zoning Board and will be the first development of its kind in the historic neighborhood. The property is located at the corner of Monroe and Lafayette Streets.
The main rendering above shows a façade of red brick, reflective glass panels around the southern corner, a uniform grid of windows along the eastern elevation facing Monroe Street and the southwestern corner, and dark gray metal paneling enclosing the ground floor with an additional sidewalk canopy supported by multiple round columns where the main entrance appears to be situated. A small corner on the upper part of the building will display the name of the hotel below the flat parapet.
Another older exterior rendering from Comito Associates’ website shows more of the wider eastern profile and with some minor alterations in the façade details.

The Seabra brothers’ plans to open a hotel at 114-126 Monroe Street date as far back as 2014. The original design scheme called for six-story hotel with only 96 guest rooms, and a later amendment increased the room count to 106. Work was planned to break ground in 2019 with Lisbon-based Pestana Hotel Group planned as the hotel operator. Construction was halted the following year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and remained on hold ever since. The hotel was intended to open in July 2021.
A new construction timeline for 114-126 Monroe Street has yet to be announced.
