The Algonquin Resort is located by Passamaquoddy Bay in St Andrews by-the-Sea, New Brunswick. It first opened in 1889 and was known as a Canadian Pacific Railway resort.
Over the years, it developed a reputation for its saltwater baths and proximity to the Bay of Fundy.
The Canadian coastal resort hotel in the Tudor Revival style covers an area of over 220 acres.
The resort facilities also include a 72-par seaside golf course, more than 20,000ft² of meeting space suitable for large groups, four dining outlets, a full-service spa, indoor and outdoor pools, and a fitness centre.
InnVest Hotels president & CEO Lydia Chen said: “This revitalisation is not just about refreshing a historic property, it’s about redefining the guest experience year round.
“We’re committed to honouring The Algonquin Resort’s storied past while creating a modern destination that invites guests to relax, recharge, and return 365 days a year.”
Planned upgrades include refurbishing all 233 guest rooms, updating public areas such as the lobby and dining spaces, revised dining venues within the resort and adding a new facility called Usva by-the-Sea—a Nordic thermal spa expected to open in early 2026.
The new spa facility will overlook Passamaquoddy Bay and offer experiences influenced by Scandinavian thermal traditions.
The redesign also addresses the property’s interiors. Canadian design agency Mackaywong oversaw the creative direction for the renovations, which are scheduled to conclude by mid-2027.
Cole Sheridan was newly appointed as the resort’s general manager. He has more than 15 years of experience in hospitality leadership.
