Guests at President Trump’s hotel in Chicago can get a glimpse of the “hellhole” he’s repeatedly derided for around $600 a night — with views of the looming National Guard showdown possibly included.
The average one-night stay in October at Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago costs $573.70, according to the property’s website. A room this Friday will set travelers back $764, while the cheapest stays can be booked for upcoming Sundays for as little as $461.25.
That’s a steep price tag for guests in the nation’s third-largest city, which Trump has regularly targeted for more than a month amid his administration’s ongoing federal crackdown and deployment of National Guard troops.
“Chicago is a hellhole right now,” Trump told reporters in early September as he announced National Guard deployment in Baltimore and teased more cities to come. In one meme posted to his Truth Social account, the president declared his affinity for the “smell of deportations in the morning” while vowing that The Second City would find out why the Department of Defense had recently been recast as the Department of War.
But those blunt warnings and assessments are nowhere to be found on the website for Trump’s five-star hotel, which lauds Chicago as a top urban destination.
“With nationally acclaimed restaurants on every corner, world-class shopping along Magnificent Mile, award-winning shows, renowned history and cultural museums, and even sandy beaches, Chicago has something to offer everyone,” the site reads.
The 92-story, 1,389-foot skyscraper on the banks of the Chicago River is the seventh-tallest building in the United States and has inspired architects worldwide, according to the hotel’s website.
“Located near The Magnificent Mile, this luxurious hotel in downtown Chicago is one of the tallest reinforced concrete buildings in the world, and has become Chicago’s most enviable address,” the site continues. “Bringing a new level of luxury to the Midwest, Trump Chicago served as the inspiration for the Burj Khalifa and was designed by the mind behind the renowned Dubai building — no other luxury hotel in Chicago can claim this distinction.”
With “impeccable style and spectacular service,” the hotel is perfect for weekend getaways, business trips or family vacations. Guests can also enjoy floor-to-ceiling windows and fully-equipped kitchens.
“We offer a venue for every occasion, whether business or pleasure, and ensure that from start to finish no detail of your event is overlooked by our expert event team,” the site reads. “The sophisticated design of the grand ballroom and incredible views of the salon rooms and boardrooms each offer stunning settings to make a lasting impression.”
Despite objections from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a Democrat, and local officials, the Texas National Guard arrived in the Chicago area early Tuesday. Several Guard troops carrying long guns while wearing camouflage were spotted in the far southwest suburbs, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The escalation, which marks the latest clash in Democratic-led cities during the Trump administration’s ongoing immigration enforcement campaign, comes after a lawsuit filed Monday by leaders in Illinois alleging the deployment is “unlawful and dangerous.”
A federal judge also temporarily blocked the deployment of National Guard troops in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday after members from neighboring California had started arriving in what that judge said was a contravention of her previous order blocking the deployment.
The White House referred inquiries to the Trump Organization, which did not respond to requests for comment Tuesday.
