SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) – Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker has identified two victims of an early morning shooting at a hotel on Broad Street.

Officers were called at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday to respond to a shooting at the Sleep Inn on Broad Street. According to Baker, 20-year-old Saquan Logan and 19-year-old Demari Spann were pronounced dead on the scene from apparent gunshot wounds.

WIS spoke to a guest who was there at the time of the shooting.

“We both got in between the beds and then after, the gunshots fired probably for 30 seconds, a minute,” a guest at the hotel said.

“I went and looked out the peephole on the third floor. There was this guy, he was panicking… he was panicking going back and forth from the elevator to the stairs.” unavailable now

Police say more details are unavailable now as the investigation remains in the early stages.

An award of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to arrests. Authorities ask anyone with information to call the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2700 or send a tip to Crime Stoppers.
