WATERSMEET, Mich. (WLUC) – A man was pulled to safety by a casino worker on Friday morning after a fire broke out in a guest room at the Lac Vieux Desert Dancing Eagles Hotel.

According to a press release from Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a fire broke out in a room on the hotel’s second floor located at the Lac Vieux Desert Northern Waters Casino.

The tribe says casino maintenance worker Kirk Leaton pulled the occupant of the room to safety. Officials say the young man is in stable condition and being treated for smoke inhalation.

The Tribe says the Hotel’s fire suppression system kept the fire at bay ahead of the arrival of first responders.

The extent of the damage is currently being assessed. Hotel staff are working to ensure minimal interruption to accommodate the needs of current and future guests. However, check-in times may be delayed to ensure guest safety.

The fire has had a minimal effect on Casino operations, and while lodging may be affected, the Dr. Pool Tournament scheduled for March 7-9 will proceed along with the operation of other Casino amenities.
