An Air India cabin crew member was allegedly sexually assaulted at a London hotel on Thursday (August 15, 2024) night after an intruder entered her hotel room.

Sources among Air India employees said that the incident happened at Radisson Red Hotel in Heathrow, London, and added that the staff had on many occasions in the past raised complaints about lack of adequate security at the hotel and being stalked by a miscreant.

The woman was sleeping in her room, when the assailant entered her room with the help of a hotel key card. The woman was punched in the eye and brutally assaulted, according to a social media post. As she screamed for help, occupants in adjacent rooms were able to rescue her and catch the assailant.

The victim was taken to the hospital and has returned to Mumbai, said airline sources. Two airline officials from Mumbai were flown to London to escort her back.

“We are deeply anguished by an unlawful incident of intrusion at a hotel, operated by a major international chain, that affected one of our crew members. We are providing all possible support to our colleague and their broader team, including professional counselling,” the airline said in a press statement.

The matter is also being pursued with the local police and the hotel management. 

In internal messages that have gone viral, cabin crew have said that they had made several complaints about the London hotel with the management over the past one year but to no avail. In those messages they speak about a man trying to break in to their room. Some others have mentioned that the hotel corridors were dimly lit, there was inadequate security and the reception too was unmanned.
